At a Mahoning County Jail, an inmate was found smacking another inmate’s jaw recently, basically, reported on New Years’ Day. The inmate named; Melvin Johnson was brought into the court charged for a criminal assault.

Melvin Johnson was presented before Judge Carla Baldwin, a Magistrate Judge, and he was given a bond of $20,000. Thirty-year-old Melvin is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on January 10th.

The attack was reported around 09:00am on January 1st inside a room where several inmates were present accompanied by Melvin. Thenceforward, the guards heard a smack and thump and ran towards the room inmates were present in. There they found an inmate lying on the ground with a broken jaw and accused departing after performing an odious act.

Later, the officials screened and viewed the CCTV footage where they saw Melvin Johnson beating the other inmate to the ground so viciously that it led to his jaw breaking. The inmate fell to the ground feeling unconscious. The video showed that Johnson hit the inmate at least six times.

After which, the abused inmate was rushed to the hospital due to continuous bleeding from his mouth. The ambulance took him to the St. Elizabeth Health Center on Belmont Avenue, giving him immediate initial care for a broken jaw.

No further reports have yet been obtained on other updates about Johnsons’ hearing and the ill-treated inmate. However, Johnson has been reported to be in jail since November 30th. He was convicted of the drug charges on a parole violation in 2018. On November 16th, he was further indicted of misusing a credit card in addition to receiving stolen property.
